Tracking PixelPhysical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle for every child and eating the right things goes right along with it. Having 2 very active boys of my own, being active is very important thing.   The Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign helps students make good choices by eating nutritious foods while being active for at least 60 minutes every day. And living in sunny California, there is no excuse not to eat right and stay active!

The Fuel Up to 60 campaign is a significant program that anyone can get involved with, while helping our kids and benefiting schools. Real California Milk, which represents over 1,400 dairy families in California has kick started Fuel Up to Play 60, which is a national campaign by the NFL and Real California Milk, in order to encourage physical activity and eating healthy in schools. What type of healthy eating? Nutrient rich foods like low-fat and fat free dairy, fruits, veggies, and whole grains.

Qualifying schools in California can benefit greatly from the Fuel Up to Play 60 program as they may be eligible for up to $4,000 to help with health and wellness programs. Schools compete for this funding while adopting plays from the 2015-2016 edition of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Playbook. The Playbook contains strategies for creating healthy breakfast programs and also fun ways to stay active by running, jogging, or walking 100 miles over one school year – which of course is a great way to be healthy!

There’s even more for Central Valley Schools – schools and students grades 4th -10th can join the Get In the Game Challenge from now until May 22.

  • The school with the highest number of sign ups will get a celebration event on June 3, 2015 that will feature food, games, and special guests from the San Francisco 49ers! This will include current and/or former player and mascot Sourdough Sam.

  • The winning school also gets a dedicated stadium brick in the Levi’s® Stadium Fanwalk in Santa Clara, CA.

To apply for a spring grant, visit fuelplay60.com for info and to get your school involved. The grant deadline is June 16, 2015.
