Ask Away Friday
Thanksgiving is next week folks!  Are you ready?  Are you traveling?

For those of you who aren’t familiar with #AskAwayFriday it’s an amazing way to meet new bloggers, make friends and ask some questions to get to know them better!  10 questions are exchanged and answered on your partners blog, you can get as creative as you want and even get into our purses!

As always, tried and true we have the partners in crime, the ladies who created #AskAwayFriday…the wonderful Penny from The Real Housewife of Caroline County and Amber from Bold Fab Mom!!

The Real Housewife of Caroline County

Our co-hosts for the month of November are amazing so check them out!

Dean aka Mrs_AOK is pretty freaking amazing!  She’s been apart of #AskAwayFriday as long as it’s been around I believe, which is pretty impressive!  She’s become a great friend to me and the other ladies involved in #AskAwayFriday each week and I’m super excited she’s moving to the East Coast!

Next up is the wonderful Ophelia from LatinaMamaRama, we’ve really enjoyed her joining in on #AskAwayFriday, she always has some really insightful and beautiful things to say!

And last, but certainly not least is Sarah from Lomholt’s Family…she’s a really great gal from Iowa and I really enjoy our little chats, she’s become a good friend and a friendly face each week on #AskAwayFriday!  She’s always up for exchanging with anyone and so friendly!

Okay, now that we’ve met everyone I’m going to add in a shameless plug on behalf of Penny & Mrs_AOK.  Enter into the Holiday Nail Polish GIVEAWAY!!!  There are 3 prizes (so 3 times the chances to win!) and they are all awesome!

Now that we’ve got all the business out of the way, let’s get into Week 16 of #AskAwayFriday!

I’m so excited to introduce Stephanie Rufa from “So I’ve Been Thinking.” I met her at a blog conference in Dallas and she truly is such a sweet person. We had so much fun getting to know each other that weekend and she accepted to do this with me. After Bloggy Boot Camp, I was feeling a little overwhelmed, but then I read this “Figuring Out  My Why” article from Stephanie and it all became clear. You too will love her!

1.    You mention on your blog that you are blogging to chronicle your family’s journey. How did you chronicle your life before you started writing “publicly?”

I really did not have any way to chronicle our family’s journey – this is one of the reasons I started the blog. I try to remember funny stories or some of the everyday things that happened but I know that there are many I cannot recall. By writing “publicly” my boys will have a little piece of their childhood and hopefully one day when the have a family they will understand my craziness.

2.     If you found yourself with an entire weekend by yourself, the laundry was done; Tom and the boys were busy and taken care of. You had meals all cooked for the upcoming week and you didn’t have to grocery shop. What would you do with your time?

I would probably call a few girlfriends and go get a massage, lunch or maybe some shopping.

3.     If you had to choose to give up reading (for leisure) or listening to music, which would you choose?

I’d give up reading. I really enjoy music. I love listening while in the car, cleaning or just laying in bed.

4.     Your boys are very involved in sports and as a result, so are you. Were you involved in sports prior to having children? Which ones or why not? Do you still participate in any sports?

I was not involved in any sports at all as a child. My parents worked a lot and we did not have the opportunity to participate in organized sports. I truly feel fortunate that my sons enjoy sports and that the family has the means to support this.

5.     What is your “go to” easy, fast, healthy weeknight dinner?

One thing I always have on hand (fresh or in the freezer) is beans. It is so simple and fast and really not much work to it. You can create many simple dishes with beans.

These beans are so delicioso!

These beans are so delicioso!

6.     You have been blogging for less than one year yet you would never know by visiting your blog. What are the three “must do’s” that you would suggest any new blogger do?

  1. Figure out your niche- I think it’s important to know what kind of blog you want to have and go with it.
  2. Be authentic- Be the real you!
  3. Socialize- Jump in on Social Media. Mingle and get to know other bloggers. You will soon find others that are willing to help and you build blogger relationships that way. One extra one – there is a lot of help on the web (google, blogs, You Tube) so the technical stuff will come to you.

7.     One of my children has a “kiss pattern” and every time we kiss goodnight or goodbye we do it, do you have a routine for either or both of your sons that you do every day?

More of a bedtime pattern…..both of my boys will still ask me to tuck them into bed. Yes, even my oldest! They love for me to sit with them, stroke their hair and kiss them on the cheek. Then they tell me that they love me forever and I’m the best mom in the world. It really is the best part of my day!

8.     What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a princess, nurse or doctor. I became a teacher. Now I enjoy my jobs of being a SAHM and publisher!

9.     You’ve been with your husband for 20 years, what would you say has been important in growing your relationship? Is there any one thing?

We were best friends before we officially started dating. I think that we communicate well each other and we both have a great sense of humor. We can always laugh.

10.  What one piece of advice would you give your sons?

I seem to have a million pieces of advice for them! But if it were to be just one:  Nobody who ever gave their best in something (i.e. family, school, sports) ever regretted it.

  1. Thank you for partnering up with me! I love that piece of advice for your sons, I thought that would be a toughie but I like your answer a lot! Have a fantastic weekend, I’m going to try one of your recipes…just need to figure out which one.

  2. That question was a toughie! It was really hard to just think of one. Let me know which one you try. Thank you for joining me! XOXO

  3. all little girls want to be princesses when they grow up! I’m still convinced I got my wish :)

  4. The vision of you kissing your babies goodnight was sweet :)
After a long day, and perhaps a few headaches, the nighttime kisses and I love yous make the day worth it all–right!?!
You are an awesome Mama :)

  5. The advice for your sons, love it! Great answers all over.
    Can’t wait to “stalk” Stephanie!

  6. That is awesome advice! How sweet is that bedtime routine?? There’s nothing more comforting than a mothers touch!

  7. I love the advice for your sons – best advice ever!! My husband and I were very good friends before we started dating too! Heading over to check out Steph’s answers!

    • That was a tough question because you want to give them so much advice, but I think that will lead them to make good choices. Thanks for stopping by!

  8. April Mirabito says:

So glad I was sent to your blog through Stephanie’s post on So I’ve Been Thinking! I enjoyed reading your answers to your questions and you have quite a few recipes that are right up my alley!! Can’t wait to see more from you.

  9. I love your advice in number 6. If you aren’t honest or real, then you won’t retain your followers. Also, don’t concentrate on numbers on social media. Go after quality follower rather than the number of followers that you have. I promise it will grow in due time, just be consistent and be visible.

    • Thank you! This is something that I have learned from others just to be yourself and you also met great people that way too. :)

  10. Awesome questions and answers! Love the advice for your boys. It is so amazing when you have that kind of bond with your kids, so much so that they still want the loves. While I may not tuck my oldest in any longer, I still get the hugs, kisses and loves even at 20. I can’t wait to check out Stephanie’s site! Have a great weekend, Ophelia!

    • I really can’t believe that they still ask me to do that. I’m going to continue because there will be a day when stop asking:( Thanks for stopping by!

  11. Hello! I’m stopping by from “So I’ve Been Thinking”. I loved your questions for Stephanie!
Your tips for new bloggers are AWESOME. Every new blogger should read them!!
We have a lot in common! I’ll be married 20 years this April, and my teen still asks me to tuck him in at night! (Although he would KILL me if he knew I wrote that down. It would totally ruin his cred.) 😀 –Lisa

    • Thanks Lisa! Funny, I know my son would be mortified too! I’m just happy that they continue to ask me to do that. Thank you for stopping by!

  12. Ohhh how I love your bedtime routine!!! We have a kissing routine when my husband goes to work…I call it a kissing party! LOL! I kiss him then the little one gives both of us kisses! It is a special part of the day for me!!

  13. I am still waiting for number 2 to happen :)
Wow on the 20 years! Congratulations, I so agree about what you said about communications though I learned it the hard way. Happy AskAwayFriday!

  14. Great answers! I loved your advice for your sons – I couldn’t agree more! Also, great blogger advice!!
    Have a fabulous weekend!

  15. I love your piece of advice! That is fantastic and definitely something I will have to share with my daughter.
I can’t wait to swap questions with you for next week :)

  16. I love that your boys still love for you to ‘tuck them in’. My Grandmother tucked me every night for the longest. It was something that made me feel somehow more secure and I love having that tradition with my Kiddies as well. They are all little hot boxes so most times our ‘tuck in’ is simply me sitting with them for a bit and kissing them goodnight sans blankies…LOL Great answers as always :)

    • Oh, I hope they remember that too when they get older and do the same with their children. Gotta enjoy every minute! Thanks Tiffany!

  17. Great advice for your sons! I love your blog, what great answers!! Have a great weekend!!

  18. I love what you want to teach your boys. So sweet that even the older one wants you to tuck him in! I hope I’m fortunate enough to be able to do stuff like that even when my kids get older. It’s funny, I was just telling hubby that my blog seems to have a lot of niches lol! I feel like I wanted to keep it that open because it gives me ability to cross into different topics as I grow as a person throughout my life as a wife, mom and homemaker. xo

    • Your baby boy will do the same! Boys just love their mommas..:) You have a great blog and I really enjoy reading it!

  19. I wanted to be a princess too!! That’s great advice for your boys to live by and I love that your marriage is the strong 20 years in. You two definitely are a beacon of light! I will be revisiting to get some more nuggets of wisdom for a long-lasting marriage.

    • Thank you so much! I kinda feel that I am the princess because I’m the only female in the house! Or does that make me the Queen? LOL!!

  20. Great advice for your sons and for anyone else. Once again, I also like beans, they are a great go to food.

  21. Your boys are so sweet, you have the best advice a mom could ever give to them! Congratulations on your 20 years of marriage! :)

  22. If I had a day alone, with everything done…I would definitely go get a massage and do some shopping! That sounds wonderful!
